MEP 2040 Whole Life Carbon Pilot
Findings + Gap Analysis Report
The MEP Whole Life Carbon Pilot was launched by MEP 2040 in February 2025 to apply the methodology from The Beginner’s Guide to MEP Embodied Carbon to real project case studies. The pilot evaluated the carbon impacts of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and related building systems across a full building life cycle, with projects that represent a range of building typologies, climate zones, design phases, and system configurations. The Findings and Gap Analysis report serves to display the critical findings across system categories, building typologies and life cycle stage, as well as to determine gaps in the studies that were performed.
The report includes:
Introduction to the methodology from The Beginner’s Guide to MEP Embodied Carbon
Findings by MEP System category, division, sub-categories
Building typology-specific findings
Gap Analysis including scope, process and data gaps
